NEW VIDEO: Don Trip Ft. Cee-Lo “Letter To My Son”

leave a comment »

Who knew the original “Letter To My Son” would gain more than 1 million views. With the success of the song Don Trip now finds himself with Cool & Dre, a professional “Letter To My Son” video and one featuring Cee-Lo.

Rap music is a mirror of our community. This mirror has been an instrumental tool to the empowerment of our culture. It also has been a tool to shed light on our struggle as a people. It is arguably one of the most important achievements this country has ever produced. An artform which has transformed ghetto youth into moguls, pioneers, entrepreneurs, activists, editors, A-list actors and so forth. History teaches us that when this mirror we call rap music no longer depicts the true image of our community and circumstance, the people holding the mirror are held accountable and indicted by the people. Once again we are in a moment of time where this mirror does not truly reflect the plight of our people. We are now living in what historians have named THE GREAT RECESSION, and the people are seeking a voice to speak to the pain being felt across this country. The voice they are seeking, i believe, belongs to this young man Don Trip. Cool and I have recorded over 20 songs with him and he is truly blessed with a gift. That gift is to articulate the ills of our society and put it in words/poetry for all to understand. Every 10 years or so, some1 comes along and presses the reset button on pop culture. The time for reset is upon us and his name is Don Trip. We are honored to present his body of work on a grand scale and shed light on his amazing talent. And to those who have become frustrated with the state of our music, I leave u with his own words…”HELP IS ON THE WAY!” Dre Cool&Dre Epidemic

NOTEABLE READ: Emile speaks records w/ Kid Cudi

leave a comment »

Seems like yesterday these two were unstoppable. With an abrupt end to their relationship, Emile continued on his path as did Kid Cudi. The run they had delivered some magical records; which Emile discusses with Complex.

Emile: I found Cudi browsing MySpace one day. He had ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’ on his MySpace and it had like, a few hundred listens. And I’m like, ‘Who the fuck is this? This song is a smash. This dude is incredible and he doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard. And I’m looking at his Top 8 friends, and I see Plain Pat. So I call Pat, and I’m like, ‘There’s this fucking guy, he has this amazing song, and you’re in his friends.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, he’s this new guy I got, I think I’m gonna manage him. That’s my dude, we’re just starting out. You should produce some shit for him. The first song we ever did was…

NEW VIDEO: Clearing samples made easy…

leave a comment »

For those in the industry who constantly use samples, “LegitMix” has created software that allows for easier clearing. Major development for the games up and coming producers.

Legitmix is a new technology that seeks to solve a problem that artists—especially hip-hop artists—have been dealing with for decades. Clearing samples has been a frustrating and complicated matter, but with the rapidly evolving rules and regulations that dictate the battle over copyrighted material, it’s more relevant now than ever.

Up until now, artists have had to pay for the rights to use samples. Either that, or they face being sued for big money. Legitmix has taken an interesting approach to making this whole process easier, and producer/rapper El-P is the first to give it a shot. He’s made “Rush Over Bklyn,” which samples Rush’s “Tom Sawyer,” and he’s selling it legally…
